What is being a lawyer on a day-to-day basis like?

Question by Jake Chance: What is being a lawyer on a day-to-day basis like?
What is the experience of being a lawyer? Being a lawyer is my dream, but I'm not quite sure what it is like daily. I am in Missouri, if that has anything to do with law. I have researched it, but it doesn't describe it very well from what I've seen. Please, keep anything biased to yourself. Just a side-question if you would answer for full points, what kind of lawyer would I enjoy most? I know I have plenty of time to decide, but it's just intresting to learn about different types of lawyers. Though, I think I would enjoy being a civil rights, real estate, auto accident, or criminal defense attorney. But I am again, not sure exactly what each kind of lawyer does exactly.

There is no typical day--both because there are so many different types law and types of jobs lawyers have, and, regardless of the type of law, the work is so varied from day to day. That's what makes it such an interesting career and one with unlimited potential. I suggest you talk with lawyers in different types of jobs.

  1. A good lawyer needs to be highly ethical, assertive, smart, perceptive, educated, and good at strategy (although many fail at many of these). If you like the area of law and you can think outside the box, then being a lawyer might be for you. In all cases you have to be extremely well educated so you can pass the LSAT to get into a good law school and then pass the bar afterward.
